| Looks nice OS but of little use if unable to connect. Have tried both laptop and desktop. Searched on line but am at a loss. Live disc only so far, reluctant to install without internet connection for guidance. Thank you in advance for any help or advice. | |

Hi, lasershark, What kind of connection do you have? There is a Network manager icon on the panel (right-buttom side of the screen. Right-click on it to enable-disable network. Left-click to connect to wireless and to configiure wired connections. Remix_OS is well documented: go to Menu -> Help.

I tried sudo but it didn't work...

Browse to the folder containing the script. Right-click, "Open Terminal Here". - Code:
-
sh ./<filename> or - Code:
-
sudo sh ./<filename> In case you have no sucess with that driver, check this page: Realtek wireless NIC Drivers

| Cheers Remixer, I'd just found sudo bash <filename> just before coming here Now I have an installer error - and I've tried the command you've suggested above with exactly the same result. - Code:

At least that's what I could pipe to an error message but usually the error message is longer as shown highlighted below: It seems it baulks at whatever rtw_cmd.o is supposed to be doing...

| Ahhhh... sorry buddy - I missed that link in my haste! Will try it now! Ahh ok... that's where I got the driver from... From some trawling through other sites, I tested a couple of commands. lsusb did not list the stick but from dmesg I get: - Code:
-
[ 3564.398251] usb 9-1: new high speed USB device number 7 using ehci_hcd [ 3564.513998] usb 9-1: New USB device found, idVendor=0bda, idProduct=8176 [ 3564.514005] usb 9-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 [ 3564.514009] usb 9-1: Product: 802.11n WLAN Adapter [ 3564.514013] usb 9-1: Manufacturer: Realtek [ 3564.514016] usb 9-1: SerialNumber: [deleted by me] [ 3564.616503] cfg80211: Calling CRDA to update world regulatory domain [ 3564.815059] rtl8192cu: MAC address: [deleted by me] [ 3564.815068] rtl8192cu: Board Type 0 [ 3564.815278] rtl8192cu: rx_max_size 15360, rx_urb_num 8, in_ep 1 [ 3564.856754] ieee80211 phy0: Selected rate control algorithm 'rtl_rc' [ 3564.856939] usbcore: registered new interface driver rtl8192cu [ 3564.866000] udev[1170]: renamed network interface wlan0 to wlan2 [ 3564.869080] rtl8192cu: MAC auto ON okay! I also used the 'wrong' driver rtl8192_8188CUS_... instead of rtl8192_8188CU_... but it didn't make a scrap of difference in terms of the point of failure. These drivers are also date from about a week ago. It seems that it's quite common for Realtek drivers to cark it in linux with similar issues. Given that these are only a week old, I wonder what the chances are that the guy compiling it never deleted all files when testing the package?

| Hi, Also having trouble with wireless. It's weird, I've tried a few distros (though all ubuntu-based, come to think of it) on my Acer and a friend's Toshiba (I fixed it for him 8 mos ago, 'till he asks for it back it just gets used for trying OSs!) Never had trouble on either machine with wireless, worst-case scenario is a mouse-click or 2.
With Remix I just get nothing . . . "enable wireless" is ticked, but there's no indication that anything's going on, it doesn't list the local networks or anything. I'm using an Atheros AR5B97 Wireless Network Adapter on my Acer, don't recall what's in the Toshiba.
Cheers, h.
